For white tea, the delicate leaves are refined with the spring buds of the tea bush. This creates an aromatic specialty that is prepared with hot water that is no longer boiling. Darjeeling, Assam and Ceylon are big names that stand for special tea quality among connoisseurs and connoisseurs. With good reason: the demanding shrubs thrive best at altitudes between 500 and 2,000 meters and need regular rainfall. You can find these conditions in northern India and on the green island of Sri Lanka. Even today, large, hierarchically organized plantations characterize the picture in the regions and are reminiscent of colonial times. But through the commitment of Tea Promoters India (TPI) a change is taking place. Since the GEPA partner converted one of the first tea gardens in Darjeeling, India, to organic cultivation thirty years ago, many have followed his good example. The participation of the tea workers became a model for all fair trade tea gardens.
Sustainability: We are proud that all GEPA teas are now organically certified or additionally bear the Naturland certification. GEPA supports this valuable work by promoting the conversion, offering courses in organic farming and enabling the realization of ecological and social projects through fair trade premiums. At the same time, we also make sure that our products are completely environmentally friendly. For tea bags, for example, we use organic cotton threads and aroma protection films made from predominantly renewable raw materials.
